Restaurant Review #2 – Kelsey and Kim’s

A  couple of posts back, in the Treasures of #South Jersey post, I mentioned the restaurant Kelsey and Kim’s and how they were on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. I also mentioned how much I loved their catfish nuggets. Well, needless to say my cravings got the best of me and I convinced my mom to go back to Kelsey and Kim’s for her birthday and, once again, I left a satisfied customer.

As mentioned before Kelsey and Kim’s is located in Atlantic City, New Jersey which is about  an hour away from where I live (hence, why it has to be an occasion to eat there). Now, when I last dined at the restaurant it was at the soul food café located on Melrose Ave. For my mom’s birthday dinner, we visited Kelsey’s Supper Club – with live music located on Pacific Ave.

When we walked in, there was a live Jazz band playing to our left, definitely helping to set the mood for the evening.  We sat down and wasted no time looking over the menu and picking out appetizers. I ordered my long-lost-love, the catfish nuggets ($9), hot wings ($10) and bang bang shrimp ($9).

The catfish nuggets were just as I remembered, well seasoned, light and flaky batter and filled with meat. The catfish nuggets were paired with a sweet and spicy sauce that just made my taste buds dance. The bang bang shrimp must’ve gotten their name for the unexpected spicy kick you taste when you bite into the shrimp. The hot wings are now my second favorite food from Kelsey and Kim’s; the sauce on the hot wing has just enough spicy with a hint of sweet flavor…another unexpected pleasant surprise. The table shared the cornbread ($5) and that was yet another sweet treat.

For the entrée I decided to go with the stuffed shrimp, a baked potato and one of my favorite vegetables…collard greens.  IMG_8704You can tell by the half eaten shrimp in the bottom left corner that I was overjoyed for my entrée to finally come. The shrimp were boiled (per suggestion from the helpful waiter) and stuff with crabmeat(real crabmeat, not the chewy canned imitation crab) and the only downside to the shrimp was that I wanted more than 3 shrimp because they were so good! There wasn’t anything particularly special about the baked potato…maybe I should’ve ordered a loaded potato instead. And, the collard greens were cooked to perfection with the perfect amount of seasoning.

Overall, Kelsey’s Supper Club – with live music is defiantly the more upscale location of the restaurant chain. It’s a great place for a date night or to celebrate a special occasion. The prices are decent for a good meal, you will certainly get your moneys worth and because of that I would come back anytime!

With 5 being the best and 1 being the worst:

  • Customer Service: 5
  • Food: 5
  • Atmosphere: 5
  • Prices: 5
