Healthy Soul Food in SJ?

When one thinks of soul food, they probably won’t think of the healthiest of meals. One more than likely thinks of greasy but hearty foods such as fried chicken, high in calories mac and cheese and some not so gluten-free cornbread. However, Nancy Miller has made it possible for soul food to be healthy. In Can soul food be healthy?,  Danya Henninger, a restaurant reviewer for the Courier Post,  introduces Nancy Miller and her new restaurant, Ms.Nancy’s.

According to Henninger, the fried chicken is not exactly fried the traditional way but is instead”a quick 2 to 3 minute fry with a longer oven bake”, and the … is.  Miller states that what helps make the food healthier is that Miller uses oils like grapeseed and coconut rather than butter.

South NJ Restaurant on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives

Atlantic City, New Jersey is known for its casinos, beaches and famous boardwalk but now, thanks to Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, AC has something else to brag about…the soul food restaurant, Kelsey and Kim’s. Kelsey and Kim’s is a restaurant owned by husband and wife, Kelsey and Kim Jackson.

As it turns out Triple D’s host, Guy Fieri heard a lot about the restaurant’s pig feet and “wanted to see what the buzz was about” as stated in this article. The episode “Fish, Fries and Feet”  has already aired on January 16 but will air again on March 11th at 11|10 but for other times the episode will air click here.

I’ve had the pleasure of dining at Kelsey and Kim’s almost two years ago and I can remember that the food was great (one of my personal favorite dishes are the catfish nuggets), the ambiance was nice and to top it all off, Kelsey himself came to each table to make sure we were enjoying our evening. To say the least, I’m looking forward to watching this episode on Triple D!
